In 1925 she married
Alfred Henschke (the poet Klabund), at that time already a
successful poet.
In 1926, she went
to Berlin to work
with Bertolt Brecht. He wrote the role of Polly Peachum in The
Threepenny Opera for her, but late in rehearsals her husband died.
She was therefore unable to appear at the premiere, but acted the
role of Polly in later performances.
Flying the Nazi
terror, she fled to the Soviet Union, where she knew the tragic fate of other western communists : she ended up in a prison,
where she died of typhus.
