If you've always believed that Sing-Sing was a prison in the state of New York, you have been right, but only partly right. There was another Sing-Sing, at Chausseestraße 11, Berlin-Scheunenviertel. Sing-Sing was one of the most dazzling establishments of Berlin's nightlife of the twenties. A prison-restaurant, modeled on the dining room of the Berlin prison Plotzensee. There was even an electric chair similar to the one in the real Sing Sing from the U.S. Here, however, it was just a dummy that served to amuse the guests, between 1927 and 1933.
In 1933 the fun was
over. The National Socialists put an end to the dodgy nightlife for a
long time. "Sing-Sing, Jail & Pub", closed down for
good.
