The cultural channel Arte is airing a German series about the Bauhaus, the famous art and design school founded exactly 100 years ago. Die Neue Zeit is a fictional series, very well done in my opinion. I discovered things like the fact that some of the teachers were deeply engaged in esoterical doctrines with roots in ancient Persia. Far from the extreme rationalism I had always associated Bauhaus with. The political context of the early Weimar Republic is well rendered too. And the students had nothing against wild parties either...
For the time being, the series is only diffused in Germany, France and a few other countries. But it will no doubt soon be released on DVD or on channels like Netflix or Amazon Prime.
